Regular Meeting
Wednesday, March 9, 2011 7:00 PM
Danube City Council Chambers
A regular meeting of the Danube City Council was conducted on March 9, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. with Mayor Gene Allex presiding. Council Members Ryan Bentley, Al Strunc and Sharon Lothert were present. Chief of Police Les Schneider, City Clerk-Treasurer Sara Wilson, and City Attorney Aaron Walton were also present. Council Member Bob Simpson was absent
Approval of Agenda
Council Member Bentley moved and Council Member Strunc seconded a motion to approve the Agenda with the addition of “Approve door between Millers on Main and Community Center” new business. The motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes
Council Member Strunc moved and Council Member Bentley seconded a motion to approve the minutes from the regular meeting of February 23, 2011. The motion carried unanimously.
Discussion of EDA Investigation
At 7:05 p.m., Council Member Bentley moved and Council Member Strunc seconded a motion to close the public portion of the council meeting to discuss active investigative data. The motion carried unanimously.
At 7:18 p.m., Council Member Strunc moved and Council Member Bentley seconded a motion to re-open the council meeting to the public. The motion carried unanimously.
The following resolution was put before the council:
Be it resolved that the council accepts the resignation Council Member Sharon Lothert thereby declaring that a vacancy exists on the Danube City Council.
Council Member Strunc moved and Council Member Bentley seconded a motion to pass the resolution as stated. The motion carried unanimously.
Council Member Bentley moved and Council Member Strunc seconded a motion to remove Sharon Lothert from all City of Danube bank accounts. The motion carried unanimously.
Chief of Police Les Schneider
Chief of Police Les Schneider was present to give his monthly employee report. Statistics for February 2011 were down a little from last February and as follows: 52 calls, 25 reports, 27 traffic stops, 10 citations, 32 mutual assists, and 3 home security checks.
Chief Schneider reported that all but one of the new lights have been installed in the gym at the school and winter activities are starting to wind down. Schneider will need to send in his water license renewal along with the $23 fee. He attended the MRWA conference with Public Works Director Dan Kaufenberg last week.
Chief Schneider has been filling in as the Community Center custodian since the middle of February and will continue to do so until the position is filled. He is also taking care of any water and wastewaster duties and maintenance issues that need to be dealt with while Kaufenberg is on vacation.
Chief Schneider reported that Officers Krueger and Hotovec’s license renewals will be up on June 30, 2011. The renewal fee is $45 and the City normally takes care of paying for the fee.
Council Member Bentley moved and Council Member Strunc seconded a motion to pay Les Schneider’s water license renewal fee of $23 and Officers Dan Hotovec and Marcel Krueger’s POST License renewal fees of $45. The motion carried unanimously.
2nd Street East
The 2nd Street Improvement project has been advertised for bids. The opening of bids will be done at City Hall on March 24th at 11:30 a.m.
Approve Bills
Council Member Strunc moved and Council Member Bentley seconded a motion to approve the bills in the amount of $19,435.70. The motion passed unanimously
Vacant Community Center Custodian Position
In light of the resignation of Sharon Lothert from the custodian position at the Community Center, Clerk Wilson was instructed to advertise for at least a month in the Renville Register, the need for a part-time custodian.
School Building Ditch Assessment
The council was informed that there were special ditch assessments that were attached to the Danube School Building. The City had not been billed for them previously, but will not be charged any interest or penalties.
Donation Request from Renville County Fair Board
The Renville County Fair Board requested a $250 donation to help offset the cost of the fireworks display at the 2011 Renville County Fair. The request was dropped due to lack of interest.
Door Open Between Millers On Main and Community Center
Council Member Strunc moved and Council Member Allex seconded a motion to have the door open between Miller’s on Main Bar & Grill and the Community Center on March 18 and 19 for the Smelt Feed. Motion passed unanimously.
Adjournment
There being no further business before the council, Council Member Strunc moved and Council Member Bentley seconded a motion to adjourn the meeting. With all members voting in favor, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
